Oct 10-11, 2015 was the annual Iron Oak Competition.  This event was sponsored by the Midwest Distance Driving Association.  We were blessed with good weather.  It was a little chilly Saturday morning, with frost on a few surfaces, but Sunday made up for it with temps in the 80s.  The fall colors were nearing their peak.  Tim and Ruth Casserly, Ride Managers extraordinaire, made sure the trails were marked, vets and volunteers were well fed, and everyone had a good time.

The new trail markers which Tim made during the winter were a big hit.  Highly visible and versatile, riders and drivers were able to negotiate the course with minimal difficulty.  There will always be a few people who are directionally challenged, but the vast majority of riders and drivers had no trouble.

On Saturday, we had six drivers, including two who have never done a distance drive.  In addition to Tim and Ruth’s managing, there was a cadre of volunteers who were taking P&Rs, timing, scribing, marking and unmarking trails, filling water tanks, handling paperwork, etc..
