Hand equals 4″
Horses and ponies are measured at withers


14.3″ to 16 hand 900 to 1100 lbs Standard Horse
13 to 14.3″ hand 700 to 900 lbs Cob or Arab
12 to 13 hand 600 to 700 lbs Large Pony
40 to 48″ 450 to 600 lbs Medium Pony
34 to 40″ 300 to 450 lbs Small Pony
Under 34″ Up to 300 lbs Mini Horse
A. From corner of mouth,
over the poll, to other
corner of mouth

B. Length around nose

C. Length of girth

D. Length of back from
position of harness saddle
to base of tail

E. Length of horse

F. Height at withers

Harness measurements are at the maximum size.
