I also thought the 6 mile drive was only there for “beginners” and/or horses that were unfit (due to size or condition) to do a longer distance – an “intro” class

I thought the current rule was shortest distance or anything 15 miles or less – I entered the 15 rather than the 6 under that assumption and I’m sure Sharon did also. I thought the “change” was only to allow us to do drives longer than 15 when nothing else was offered

Here is the pertinent section from our rules:

      4. Year End Awards

MDDA presents Year-end Awards for “Competitive” and “Limited Distance” competitors based on points earned by finishing drives. (“Competitive” includes all distances at all events. “Limited Distance” is strictly limited to the shorter distances offered on any one day of an event, and is designed to accommodate equines whose size, age, experience or condition may prohibit competition at the longer distances.) Awards include Champion and Reserve Champion horse and driver combination in single and pairs for Competitive and Limited Distance. The MDDA Board may recognize additional placings in both competitive and limited distance. Each horse and driver combination must complete at least 5 drives to be eligible.

I am open to adjusting to meet anything the board authorizes. Appeal to the board if you feel this rule should be modified.

I already have to recalculate placings where only one pair competed.

Note, LD calculation updated to reflect current rule for LD, i.e. “the shorter distance offered on any one day of an event”

What’s the cutoff for Limited distance? I’ve only done up to 15 miles which I think puts me in the LD category for this year.

Here is the quote from the rules:

“Limited Distance” is strictly limited to the shorter distances offered on any one day of an event, and is designed to accommodate equines whose size, age, experience or condition may prohibit competition at the longer distances

I will have to change the scoring to reflect the above. (It currently limits LD to <15 miles)

The "shorter distance" becomes a little hard to defend when Colorama only offers 25 miles. Would you want to participate in a 25 mile drive?

Maybe there should be a compromise such as "Minimum distance offered if no greater than 15 miles"?
