WELCOME to MDDA

We’re glad you stopped by to visit our website on distance driving. Perhaps you’ve just discovered MDDA and want to learn more about just what we do. Perhaps you’ve come to check the schedule to see when and where competitive drives are being held or check the results of past drives. Or perhaps you are just interested in looking at some photographs of our horses and drivers at the various competitions. Whatever the reason, thanks for browsing and drop us a line if we can answer any questions or be of service to you.

Member Benefits

MDDA presents Year-end Awards for “Competitive” and “Limited Distance” competitors based on points earned by finishing drives. (“Competitive” includes all distances at all events. “Limited Distance” is strictly limited to the shorter distances offered on any one day of an event, and is designed to accommodate equines whose size, age, experience or condition may prohibit competition at the longer distances.) Awards include Champion and Reserve Champion horse and driver combination in single and pairs for Competitive and Limited Distance. The MDDA Board may recognize additional placings in both competitive and limited distance. Each horse and driver combination must complete at least 5 drives to be eligible for the above awards.

MDDA also recognizes new drivers with the high point Rookie horse and driver award for single and pairs. A Rookie must complete at least 3 drives during one season to be eligible. The MDDA Board may recognize additional rookie placings. Rookie status is retained only until the driver has completed 3 or more drives in a year.

Often ‘fun’ recognition awards may be presented.

Membership in our regional organization, Upper Midwest Endurance & Competitive Rides Assoc offers benefits of year end awards and tracking miles of horses in competition and a monthly newsletter. The web site for UMECRA

i am interested in trying distance driving this year. any mentors available in the Manawa, WI area?
my horse has done many miles of trail driving so that isnt the problem. knowing what to feed, when to use electrolytes, and when to increase activity are my biggest worries. any help would be great.

      Hi Marcia.

You are a bit north of our current membership but I will contact a past member who may be close to you.
In the mean time you might consider attending the spring clinic that I just posted. It will be on March 19 near Oakfield, WI and should answer those specific concerns.

If all else fails, you might also consider attending our Iron Oak event which is aimed at introducing new drivers to the sport. Although we are not holding a clinic in conjunction with this event this year the management is composed of drivers (as opposed to most events where riders are the managers). There is a wealth of knowledge and plenty of time to ask questions. It’s a pretty relaxed event and the terrain is easy with the choice of either a 6 mile or 12 mile drive.

Hope to see you at one of these events!

I have a cart getting a harness but need work on my driving never have done much. My horse loves it has not done in a couple years. Need to connect with a club or someone to get on a schedule with those interested.

I did help at an event a few summers ago it was at a beautiful facility and it was a three day event trying to find more info on it.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Your comments ‘beautiful facility’ and ‘three day event’ suggest to me that you may have volunteered at a CDE (Combined Driving Event).
Where are you located? If we knew your location we might be able to suggest a mentor or even guess at the event.
