Northern Kettle Moraine has beautiful driving trails. Varied terrain with woods, hills, a small swampy area, and meadows. There was one very steep hill which went around a corner that took some technical driving, but most of the rest of the trail could easily be trotted. There was one bridge crossing, as well as several road crossings. Ride management did a nice job with trail marking.

Saturday we were given 2.5 hours to finish the 12.5 mile course (my GPS said 14.2) but Lil Kay and I finished 24 minutes early, so we lost a lot of time penalty points. Other drivers had to do a lot of walking to make the time. Sunday ride management agreed to shorten the time to 2.25 hours, and Lil Kay and I finished 12 minutes early. We got behind some LD riders during the last three miles, and Lil Kay insisted on keeping up with them, so it was a fight the whole way back to camp.

Ray and I spent the weekend in the Northern Kettle Moraine State Park over on the east side of Wisconsin, near Campbellsport.  This is a very beautiful park, with excellent driving trails.  Once the rain stopped Saturday morning, the weather was quite pleasant, although a bit breezy at times.

We took Lil Kay and Sports Fanatic, just to see how he would handle the commotion of an event.  He handled it pretty well, especially when he was eating, which was most of the time.

the trail was a good mix of hills, meadows, and prairies. There was one hill which was very steep, and one area which was quite swampy.  Otherwise, the trail surface was solid.  The trails were well marked, and wide enough to be able to trot the whole thing without having to worry too much about negotiating around trees.

Lil Kay finished first in her division on Saturday, and was second on Sunday.  We lost a lot of time penalty points, because we finished too early. It was a 12.5 mile course (although my GPS said 14.2) and we were given 2.5 hours to finish on Saturday, and 2.25 hours on Sunday.
