Notes from Alice Hubert

It was a chilly weekend, but when the sun came out and the wind died down, it was a beautiful fall weekend.  Fall Colors were at or near peak.  The Southern Kettle Moraine Trails were as challenging as ever with rocks, sand, and hills.  The drive began with a six-inch log across the trail just a few hundred yards into the course.  It was at enough of an angle that Ray and I were able to roll our carts over it, one wheel at a time, without having to get out.  Team Casserly then came along and removed the log from the trail.  Most of us drivers encountered flocks of turkeys on the trail that were generally in no hurry to move out of the way.

For the most part, riders and drivers were able to share the trails with no trouble.  Goodnight Starship can now wait up to ten seconds for riders before he takes off.  One rider commented that she was upset with Ray because Penguin was “galloping out of control.”  Turns out Penguin was doing a nice slow 11-mph trot, and was able to stop for the rider and her novice horse.  With his long stride, it probably looked fast and out of control.  All a matter of perception.  🙂

Jack Shea and his family were never far from our minds, and many riders offered well wishes.  Someone commented that they heard the ride was cancelled, so we announced that the Iron Oak ride was still on. Overall, a great weekend for driving.

The air was cold, the sand was deep and the colors were magnificent! Did I say that the air was cold? And the Huberts did it all in a tent. Wow they are tough!! Good time was had by all!
