Louise Riedel Memorial
by Alice Hubert

We had a good time up at Arkdale, WI for the 2011 Louise Reidel Memorial Ride.  Louise Reidel was one of the pioneers in the sport of endurance riding.  She rode her last competitive ride at 82 years old.  Saturday the skies were very threatening, but there were just a few sprinkles.  Sunday was a near perfect day for driving.  Low humidity and temperatures.

There were three drivers this weekend.  Ray with Penguin Beware, Tim and Ruth Casserly with their pair Harley and Bachlava (sp?) and Katz Jackson with Talon.  Saturday everyone did a 12 mile drive.  Sunday Ray and the Casserlys did 25 miles, and Katz did 12.  Pistol Pete and I did not compete, as the vets declared he was lame both days.  Time for a call to our local vets.

Saturday, the Casserlys scored 387.5 points, and Ray and Katz both had 387, out of a possible 400.  Very tight competition.  Sunday there was a bit more of a spread in the scores.  The Casserlys had 384.5, Ray had 377, and Katz had 359 (score corrected to) 369.  Pete spent both days very agitated because his pasture buddy was gone.  I think he burned more calories throwing fits than Penguin did out on the trail.

Thanks to Ruth, Alice and Ray for the excellent photos!
