Note from Alice Hubert
Ray and I participated in the AHDRA II competition in Peoria IL this weekend. AHDRA stands for Arabian Horse Distance Riders Association. In addition to various endurance and competitive rides from 12.5 to 100 miles, there was a 12.5 mile drive each day. There were seven drivers on Saturday and five on Sunday. Saturday Ray and I missed a turn because a bicycle rider was standing in front of the sign, and once we realized we had missed it, we were fairly close to camp, it was very hot, and I decided it was too hot to go back. So Ray and I got no score. Sunday we did the whole course. Ray took fourth, and Pete was disqualified because he overheated. He is 17 years old, so he may be approaching the end of his competitive life.
But we had a lot of fun in spite of the heat. The “Camp Visitor” picture is of an owl which was near our campsite all weekend. It was mostly white with browns spots, and very big eyes. It made a screeching sound that almost sounded like a raspy slide whistle.
Cheers,
Alice

Drivers at AHDRAII– take a look at the photos on Doug Palme’s website and order yours!
http://www.dougpalme.com/proofs/index.php?do=photocart&viewGallery=10662
On Saturday, driver photos start on page 35 and are then spread around- (pg 62, 71, etc)
On Sunday, driver photos start on page 29.
There are oodles of pictures! Or is it evidence?
For those of you who weren’t there, look how much fun you missed!

You snuck in another photo, Jac!
Team Casserly won the 2nd place award for pledges raised for Susan G Komen Foundation. (1st place raised $2100, we raised $1300, 3rd place was around $800 I think. Total raised was in the $6,000s.)
We won a Garmin 305 Forerunner GPS with heartrate monitor. It’s a wristwatch type GPS that also tells how the horse’s pulse is doing. Now we just need to figure out how to use it!

thanks for sharing the photos. Not the same as being there but really nice to see everyone out driving. Lori
