Colorama  2008

By Jac Deweese

Unfortunately I couldn’t drive at Colorama this year.  I did drive up on Saturday to visit with the drivers and riders.  I didn’t arrive until after 2 PM and was fortunate to catch Jack Shea before he left for home.

I was curious to hear what the drivers thought of the new trail and pleased to hear both drivers, Jack Shea and Mary Clapper, praise the trail.  Although the weather was wet the trails were apparently very good and relatively level.  Jack commented that the drive was easy on the horse.  After hearing about Lincoln Trails, this was good to know.  Later, while visiting with Mary and Larry, Mary commented that she would like to see this new trail used more heavily.  It is far superior for driving than Palmyra, in her opinion.

Jack and Mary were the only drivers on Saturday, with Mary finishing 1st and Jack 2nd.

When I got home Katz Jackson called to ask about the trail.  She was hoping to go on Sunday but wanted to check before finalizing her plans.  I was able to warn her about the construction in Fond du Lac and hopefully offered some suggestions on how to get to the camp.

Apparently, Katz Jackson, Mary Clapper and Lori Schoofs participated on Sunday and finished in that order.  .Here is what Mary had to say about the drive:  “The trail was really wide with enough room for passing if needed.  Well groomed also the views were intriguing when I could see them through  my foggy eyeglasses.  Trails were beginning to get  soft and sloppy as the day wore on.  I made Ben walk the whole way on Sunday. It was kinda misrable on Sunday as I did not have any dry clothes left. But it was fun!  Wish we could have more drives there.”

I want to congratulate Lori Schoofs on completing her 3rd drive and qualifying for a Rookie Award.  Mary completed her 5th drive which qualifies her for a year end award.

I arrived too late to take pictures and so far I haven’t found any pictures from this event.
