OMNIBUS LISTINGS NOW ONLINE
The July to December list of ADS recognized competitions are now available for viewing on the ADS web site. The printed version has been mailed to current members today! If you renewed after April 20, yours will go out in the mail next week.

If you are entering a competition give the Fillable Entry Forms a try! Organizers appreciate those typed forms and you can save them to your computer for future competition entries.

Just received and posted the photos from Alice Hubert. You have to look at these! I can’t believe Alice had the nerve to take the one where she was near the bank of the river! Great photos! Thank you, Alice.

The combination of high winds last week and heavy snow yesterday have made the trails unsafe. As a result it is with great regret that we have decided to cancel the ride/drive for Apr 23, 2011.
If you have a reservation made, contact the campground at 1-608-564-2233 to receive credit for a future ride at that site.
We will be looking at the possibility of rescheduling later in the year.

Hi everyone…Hope you all have wintered well and are ready to get started with the best year in Competitive Driving you have ever had!!!
First I’d like to say thank you to our MDDA Board and introduce myself.
I have been in this sport of endurance and competitive riding for about 20 years. I have been driving for 15 yrs, and competing for three. I started driving the Saddlebreds at Priebe Stock Farms in Rochester, MN. in 1995. I loved the look of their horses that would ride and drive. I learned a few things about the show arena there. It was a good experience and I would do 8 to 10 competitive/endurance rides a year back then.
I have been a Ride manager of Rock River Charity Ride for 14 years and RM for the Arabian Horse Distance Riding Assoc (AHDRA) 3 years now. In the past I have had the pleasure to be a part of some really big rides, AHA’s National Competitive Trail Championships in 2008 and two FEI Selection Trials in 2010 that helped select horses and riders to represent Team USA in the World Equestrian Games.
I have been on the Board of Directors for UMECRA as Vice President and as IL Director. With that said, it means nothing to MDDA. MDDA needs your help to put on a great ride to improve on the past. The drivers that have been in this seat as President and Board members before me have paved the way for us to get this far. Let the rest of us keep MDDA going to make them proud. Let us introduce our sport to someone that might have an interest, even if they don’t drive they might want to ride or just help be apart of a wonderful group of people like yourselves.
Second; your BOD is getting ready to put on a a great ride at Iron Oak! They are headed up by our excellent Ride Manager: Jack Shea. Jack is getting the hang of this, it is his second year to be RM and he knows that everything that he worried about last year went off without a hitch! Now I can’t say what he is worried about this year for sure, but there are three things that make you nervous.
1) A Good Trail,
2) How many Riders and Drivers will be showing up?
3) Do I have enough Volunteers?
You would think we have no control over #2, but, you would be mistaken! The key to getting participation at Iron Oak is helping with #1 & #3!
I learned long ago that if you can make your customer more than feel at home, doing what you can to accommodate to their needs, your ride will be a huge success!
That is why Jack Shea and MDDA need your help on April 22 & 23. Yes this is the Saturday before Easter. This ride is what is going to lead us into next year where we’ll be putting on a 2 day event with a 50 mile endurance ride added to Sat and a whole second day of events for all.
When I first came into this association I had no idea of how great our awards were…even in the same year that UMECRA could only afford to give us an embroidered towel that said ‘Driving Champion’ on it, we still had great awards for the end of the year!
We need everyone that can spare any time at all on Fri afternoon and Sat. I’ll be there and I have a 5 hour drive to just get there and the same drive to make it home to be with my family on Easter. Or maybe you can only come and help mark trails or help clean up trails before and after the ride. It takes all of us to put on a ride! Bring your family along, we’ll find something for everyone to do. Maybe the grandkids might want to see the grandparents perform with their favorite horses or just see all the horses!
In closing…without you MDDA can not continue to keep moving forward. The hard economic times are still here and if we are to keep moving forward with Iron Oak as our only fund raiser we have to go back to those three simple rules that set a ride apart as being an OUTSTANDING EVENT!
Safe Trails & God Bless,

Tony Troyer
